July 22 – 28, 2021

Natural gas prices rose 3 cents at the Henry Hub reporting site and are currently priced at $3.97/MMbtu.

Crude Oil Summary

  • The price of global crude oil rose this week on the West Texas Intermediate (WTI) by $1.52 per barrel over last week, currently priced at $71.79.
  • Brent crude oil rose $2.35 and currently priced at $74.50.
  • One year ago, WTI crude sold for $41.04 and Brent crude was at $43.11.

Motor Fuels

  • As of Wednesday, July 28, the price of regular unleaded gasoline averaged $3.00 across Iowa according to AAA.
    • Prices were steady from last week’s price and $.94 higher than one year ago.
    • The national average on Wednesday was $3.16, steady from last week’s price.
  • Retail diesel prices in Iowa were steady this week with a statewide average of $3.12.
    • One year ago, diesel prices averaged $2.22 in Iowa.
    • The current Iowa diesel price is 15 cents less than the national average of $3.27.
  • Wholesale ethanol held steady and is currently priced at $2.32.
  • The current Des Moines Terminal/Rack Prices are $2.18 for U87-E10, $2.51 for Unleaded 87 (clear), $2.24 for ULSD#2, $2.40 for ULSD#1, and $2.29 per gallon for E-70 prices.

Heating Fuels

  • Natural gas prices rose 3 cents at the Henry Hub reporting site and are currently priced at $3.97/MMbtu.
  • Continuing throughout the summer months, we will only report retail heating oil and propane prices in Iowa once a month.

Natural gas prices rose 23 cents at the Henry Hub reporting site and are currently priced at $3.94/MMbtu.

Crude Oil Summary

  • The price of global crude oil fell this week on the West Texas Intermediate (WTI) by $4.88 per barrel over last week, currently priced at $70.27.
  • Brent crude oil fell $4.36 and currently priced at $72.15.
  • One year ago, WTI crude sold for $41.96 and Brent crude was at $44.31.

Motor Fuels

  • As of Wednesday, July 21, the price of regular unleaded gasoline averaged $3.00 across Iowa according to AAA.

o   Prices were steady from last week’s price and $.92 higher than one year ago.

o   The national average on Wednesday was $3.16, up 1 cent from last week’s price.

  • Retail diesel prices in Iowa were up 1 cent this week with a statewide average of $3.12.

o   One year ago, diesel prices averaged $2.22 in Iowa.

o   The current Iowa diesel price is 15 cents less than the national average of $3.27.

  • Wholesale ethanol held steady and is currently priced at $2.32.
  • The current Des Moines Terminal/Rack Prices are $2.03 for U87-E10, $2.32 for Unleaded 87 (clear), $2.10 for ULSD#2, $2.26 for ULSD#1, and $2.25 per gallon for E-70 prices.

  • Brent crude oil rose $3.42 and currently priced at $76.51.
  • One year ago, WTI crude sold for $40.29 and Brent crude was at $42.97.

Motor Fuels

  • As of Wednesday, July 14, the price of regular unleaded gasoline averaged $3.00 across Iowa according to AAA.

o   Prices were up 3 cents from last week’s price and $.89 higher than one year ago.

o   The national average on Wednesday was $3.15, up 1 cent from last week’s price.

  • Retail diesel prices in Iowa were up 1 cent this week with a statewide average of $3.11.

o   One year ago, diesel prices averaged $2.23 in Iowa.

o   The current Iowa diesel price is 15 cents less than the national average of $3.26.

  • Wholesale ethanol fell 6 cents and is currently priced at $2.32.
  • The current Des Moines Terminal/Rack Prices are $2.20 for U87-E10, $2.50 for Unleaded 87 (clear), $2.26 for ULSD#2, $2.42 for ULSD#1, and $2.28 per gallon for E-70 prices.

  • Brent crude oil fell $2.41 and is currently priced at $73.09.
  • One year ago, WTI crude sold for $40.62 and Brent crude was at $43.28.

Motor Fuels

  • As of Wednesday, July 7, the price of regular unleaded gasoline averaged $2.97 across Iowa according to AAA.

                * Prices were up 1 cent from last week’s price and $.87 higher than one year ago.

                *  The national average on Wednesday was $3.14, up 2 cents from last week’s price.

  • Retail diesel prices in Iowa were steady this week with a statewide average of $3.10.

               * One year ago, diesel prices averaged $2.25 in Iowa.

               * The current Iowa diesel price is 16 cents less than the national average of $3.26.

  • Wholesale ethanol fell 10 cents and is currently priced at $2.38.
  • The current Des Moines Terminal/Rack Prices are $2.14 for U87-E10, $2.39 for Unleaded 87 (clear), $2.17 for ULSD#2, $2.33 for ULSD#1, and $2.33 per gallon for E-70 prices.

  • Brent crude oil rose $.32 and currently priced at $75.50.
  • One year ago, WTI crude sold for $39.82 and Brent crude was at $42.18.

Motor Fuels

  • As of Thursday, July 1, the price of regular unleaded gasoline averaged $2.96 across Iowa according to AAA.

               ** Prices were up 7 cents from last week’s price and $.86 higher than one year ago.

               ** The national average on Wednesday was $3.12, up 5 cents from last week’s price.

  • Retail diesel prices in Iowa were up 4 cents this week with a statewide average of $3.10.

               ** One year ago, diesel prices averaged $2.22 in Iowa.

               ** The current Iowa diesel price is 15 cents less than the national average of $3.25.

  • Wholesale ethanol was steady and is currently priced at $2.48.
  • The current Des Moines Terminal/Rack Prices are $2.14 for U87-E10, $2.38 for Unleaded 87 (clear), $2.20 for ULSD#2, $2.36 for ULSD#1, and $2.39 per gallon for E-70 prices.
